You should, that's who. The most up-to-date Standing Rules can be found here, on the SBWGA webpage. Located under the menu Organization tab, is the sub category of General Information; under that tab is another sub category of Standing Rules. Here is where you will be able to find the changes made to our Standing Rules, approved and submitted by our Board.

President's Message for September
We’re into the fall months already! How could that be? And that means it’s time for all of us to renew our Membership to SBWGA-18.
While members received a one-time only $10 dues rebate for 2018, the Board of Directors started the budgeting process for 2019 with a return to past years’ dues base; however, that quickly proved inadequate for a number of reasons. The AGA/AWGA Handicapping Fees increased $5 to $35. Additionally, the 2018 dues do not solve the inadequate funding for all of our tournaments, as we have added a few tournaments (Senior Club Championship, for one) without raising membership dues.
Therefore, the Board of Directors has approved a balanced budget for 2019 with full membership dues pegged at $120 per person; Associate members at $80; Honorary members at $10; Handicap Only at $40. The optional categories of Eclectic, Southern District and Hole-In-One remain the same as last year; however, the purchase of additional handbooks will increase to $10 each.
Membership Dues forms will be posted on the bulletin board and on the website. Dues need to be paid by November 15th to get your contact information in the handbook. Dues are delinquent after November 30th.
Would you like to see your Membership Dues go down for 2020? Here’s how:
Karen Vander Jagt and I have proposed that we adopt the method of payment of playing fees for Sweeps and Major Tournaments that the SMGA has used without problem and to great success and satisfaction for many years. The Elected Board of Directors are excited by the plan’s possibilities and, after discussion, support this plan. Karen and I call it “If you PLAY, you PAY. If you DON’T PLAY, you DON’T PAY.”
For many years, the SMGA has not included Sweeps or Major Tournament fees in their Membership Dues. Each week the member who signs up for play is charged $7 in his House Account by HOA1. If a member cancels his playing before the Pro Shop opens on the day of play, his House Account is either not charged or there is a reversal of the charge.
Instead of SBWGA-18 collecting Sweeps and Tournament monies upfront as is the current practice, your Membership Dues would be reduced to somewhere in the range of $65 - $85, to be determined by the 2019 Board of Directors after looking at current situations at that time. Then each week, playing fees in the range of $3 to $5 would be collected from those signed up for play in the manner discussed in the above paragraph. The exact amount would be selected by the 2019 Board of Directors after additional discussion.
For the Snowbirds, you wouldn’t be paying for tournaments in which you aren’t entered. For those who travel a lot, you wouldn’t be paying for weekly Sweeps games you miss. For those who can’t play for a while due to your own illness or your spouse’s or your family’s illnesses, you wouldn’t be paying for golf games you don’t play. “If you PLAY, you PAY. If you DON’T PLAY, you DON’T PAY.”
And, surprisingly, the Sweeps pots for the week increase. The only negative that the Board sees is that if you play all the time, you will wind up paying a little more, but then you have more chances to win!
Throughout the rest of the 2018 season and into the first quarter of 2019, the Board of Directors will advise you of the potential of the monies that could have been won had we transitioned to the new collection method proposed. Then, in April or May of 2019, the General Membership will vote on whether to actually transition to this method.
The current Elected Board of Directors believes that the timing is too tight to properly explain and introduce this method to the membership and get a vote of approval from the membership at a luncheon for incorporation into the 2019 season.
Our General Meeting in September is Tuesday, September 4th, with a delicious grilled skirt steak lunch on the RoadRunner Grill Patio. Mike Roddy will be our guest speaker.
Our October General Meeting and luncheon will be on Tuesday, October 16th. There is no league play on October 2 or October 9. Troy Jewkes will be our guest speaker.
Pursuant to our ByLaws, Article VII, Nominations and Elections, our Nominating Committee has presented to me a written report of their selections for your 2019 officers on the Board of Directors. This written report will be posted Tuesday, October 23rd, which is three weeks prior to the November General Meeting.
However, it’s not too late to enter additional nominees for office. Article VII additionally states, “Any member may nominate any other member by filing a written notice of such nomination with the President, together with the nominee’s written consent, at any time prior to the election meeting [Tuesday, November 13th]. These nominations will be posted with the Nominating Committee’s slate and placed on the ballot. Nominations may not be made from the floor at the time of the elections.”
Nancy Huffman will host an Ice Cream Social at her home on Wednesday, September 26th, at 3 p.m. for prospective new members to the league. Please alert your friends who golf but are not members of SBWGA-18 about this opportunity. The Ice Cream Social is only for prospective members and the Recruitment Committee.
On Monday, October 22, there are two New Golf Rules Seminars. The first will be in our Coyote Rooms North and South at 8 a.m. Space is limited. A sign-up sheet to fill only 24 seats will be posted on the bulletin board on Monday, August 27th. If those 24 places are filled, please attend the other Rules Seminar on October 22nd at 2 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom. Mr. Robin Farran from the AGA will be the speaker at both seminars, which will be identical in content. There are many new rules that go into effect on January 1, 2019. We hope that you’ll be able to take advantage of these seminars.
E-mail me (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any concerns, comments or ideas.
